Bengaluru : A tragic construction-related accident claimed the life of a four-year-old child and left three others injured after bricks fell from the fourth floor of an under-construction building in Chinnappana Halli, under the HAL Police Station limits in east Bengaluru.
The incident occurred around 3:00–3:30 pm on Thursday, when 10 to 12 hollow bricks reportedly fell from the upper floor of the building onto a cement-sheet shed located below.
The shed was occupied by a family of migrant labourers from Vijayapura district. The falling bricks caused severe injuries to those inside.
Baby Manushree alias Paru (4), daughter of Shrishail, was rushed to Jeevika Hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead.
Three others sustained injuries in the incident:
- Shriyan (6), son of Anand
- Shekhar (5), son of Anand
- Mamatha (30), wife of Shrishail
All the injured are currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital and are said to be stable.
According to Whitefield DCP K. Parshurama, preliminary investigations indicate serious lapses in safety measures at the construction site.
“The house was being constructed without taking mandatory safety precautions to prevent such incidents,” the DCP stated.
Police identified the building owner as Srinivasulu and have initiated an inquiry to determine liability. A case is expected to be registered against those responsible for negligence leading to the fatal accident.
The incident has once again raised serious concerns over construction safety norms in rapidly developing residential areas of Bengaluru, especially where labourers and their families live close to active construction sites.
