Belagavi: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday launched a sharp attack on the BJP during the ongoing Karnataka Assembly session at Suvarna Soudha, asserting that the Congress government enjoys the support of 140 MLAs and will return to power again in 2028 with a renewed people’s mandate.
Responding to questions from the Opposition, Siddaramaiah said there was no need for the BJP to “add salt to the wound”, as Congress legislators remain united and unfazed by political provocations. “The people have blessed this government for a full five-year term. We are here to govern, not to be distracted,” he said.
The Chief Minister alleged that the BJP has never come to power in Karnataka with a clear public mandate, claiming that in 2008 and 2018, the party formed governments through Operation Lotus and backdoor politics. “Karnataka’s people will never give BJP a people’s mandate,” Siddaramaiah asserted.
Referring to the Congress-JD(S) coalition in 2019, Siddaramaiah said the alliance was formed only to prevent BJP from assuming power, but accused the saffron party of questioning the very intent of the coalition later.
Highlighting the stability of his government, Siddaramaiah said Congress follows a clear command structure where the high command’s decision is final, unlike the BJP which, he claimed, has failed to arrive at consensus even while selecting its party president.
“We will provide a stable government for five years and face the people again in 2028. Just as in 2013 and 2023, the people will bless Congress once more,” he said, adding that BJP will continue to sit in the Opposition benches.
Quoting saint-poet Kanakadasa, Siddaramaiah remarked, “This is not ‘my’ government, it is ‘our’ government. I remain Chief Minister, and will continue to be so until the high command decides otherwise.”
