New Delhi / Bengaluru: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Thursday met senior Congress leaders in Delhi, including Rahul Gandhi, amid growing political speculation over party strategy and leadership discussions.
The high-level meeting took place at 10 Janpath, the residence of Sonia Gandhi. Sources confirmed that Shivakumar had earlier met Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and General Secretary KC Venugopal late the previous night before holding discussions with Rahul Gandhi.
Speaking briefly to reporters after the meeting, Shivakumar avoided disclosing specific details but indicated that wide-ranging political matters were discussed.
“I have come here for political discussions. We have spoken about everything that needed to be spoken. Time will answer everything,” he said, declining to elaborate on the nature of the talks.
He clarified that discussions primarily revolved around upcoming elections, including the Assam Assembly polls, and broader party strategy. Shivakumar stated that reports and assessments had been reviewed to determine the roadmap for strengthening the Congress and regaining political ground where necessary.
“We have met our party leadership and discussed the direction we need to take. All necessary political issues were discussed. I cannot disclose internal discussions publicly,” he added.
The Deputy CM’s visit has triggered speculation in political circles, particularly regarding leadership dynamics and strategic responsibilities within the party. However, Shivakumar maintained that such internal matters would not be discussed in the public domain.
Political observers believe the Delhi meetings signal intensified coordination between the Karnataka leadership and the Congress high command ahead of key electoral battles in other states.
Further clarity on the outcomes of the discussions is awaited.
