BSY says amended APMC law will help double farmers’ income by 2022
BENGALURU:
Defending the ordinance to liberalise the APMC Act, Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa on Friday said he would not stay in the CM’s chair “for a minute longer” if farmers’ interests are affected.
Despite objections from opposition parties, the cabinet on Thursday had passed the ordinance. The CM said the amended law will allow farmers to sell their produce directly to anyone of their choice.
Speaking to reporters, he said this would increase their income and reduce their losses from market fluctuations. He said that in line with “Prime Minister Modi’s dream”, the amended law will help double farmers’ income by 2022.
Opposition parties have said the amendments will help big private players and clip the powers of APMCs.
