I-Monetary Advisory (IMA)
Karnataka govt suspends Dy SP, Inspector and Sub-Inspector named by CBI
MHA sources say DPAR action may follow against Hemanth Nimbalkar, Ajay Hilori
BENGALURU:
In the wake of the CBI’s recent supplementary chargesheet in the I-Monetary Advisory (IMA) Ponzi scam, the Karnataka government has ordered the suspension of a Deputy SP, an Inspector and a Sub-Inspector. The three policemen, Dy SP (CID) EB Sridhara, Inspector M Ramesh and Sub-Inspector P Gowrishankar, are among the several persons accused by the central investigative agency of colluding with the Bengaluru-based private company which cheated hundreds of investors of an estimated Rs 4,000 crore.
However, the government has not passed any orders on the trio’s seniors in the police department, IPS officers Hemanth Nimbalkar and Ajay Hilori. The duo are also named in the CBI’s chargesheet.
The IMA scam was initially probed by the state CID before the CBI came into the picture. In September, the state government gave the required nod to the CBI to prosecute all the government officials involved.
The order against the 3 policemen, passed on October 17 under rule 6&8 of the Karnataka State Police (Disciplinary Proceedings) rules 1965/89, states: “The government hereby orders a joint departmental inquiry against the following — EB Sridhara, Deputy Superintendent of Police, CID, EOD, Bengaluru; M Ramesh, Inspector of Police, Commercial Street Police Station, Bengaluru; P Gowrishankar, Sub-Inspector of Police, Commercial Street Police Station, Bengaluru.”
As per the state government order, the three policemen will remain under suspension pending a disciplinary enquiry.
With regard to IPS officers Nimbalkar and Hilori, sources in the Ministry of Home Affairs have indicated that action regarding the duo could be taken by the department of personnel and administrative services.
