Contractors who don’t comply will get notices: BBMP chief
BENGALURU:
A new waste collection policy is being implemented in 38 of the city’s wards, wherein wet, dry and sanitary waste will be collected separately. In this connection, BBMP has warned that notices will be issued to contractors who don’t comply with the new policy.
At a meeting on Wednesday at BBMP’s Malleswaram office, civic chief N Manjunatha Prasad spelt out the details to officials of the solid waste management division, contractors, dry waste collecting organizations, rag pickers and solid waste workers.

Household waste will be collected from 6.30 am to 10.30 am daily, while waste from small enterprises will be collected between 11 am and 1. pm. Prasad said waste which has been swept and kept on the kerbside will be collected from 11 am to 2 pm.
“We are aiming at 100 per cent segregation of waste and clearing black spots in the next three months,” Prasad told the media.

The penalties
Solid waste workers should visit every house and educate citizens on the segregation process as well as on the penalties for non-compliance, he said.
Special Commissioner (SWM) D Randeep, Joint Commissioner (SWM) Sarfaraz Khan, Chief Engineer (SWM) Vishwanath and Superintendent Engineer Basavaraj Kabade were present.
