As per govt order, Prasad will be civic body’s ‘super chief’ from January 11
BENGALURU:
It’s official: Current BBMP Commissioner N Manjunatha Prasad will be the first Chief Commissioner of Bengaluru’s civic agency, with effect from Monday, January 11.
A notification issued by the Urban Development Department on January 6 states that in connection with the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike Act, 2020 (Karnataka Act No 53), “the Government of Karnataka shall hereby give effect to all the provisions of the Act from January 11, 2021.”

Following the notification, Manjunatha Prasad becomes the first Chief Commissioner of BBMP. In his new post, which has been envisioned in the new law governing Bengaluru city, Prasad will be the ‘custodian’ of the BBMP Act, 2020 and will be liable to enforce all the sections of the Act in the city’s envisaged 243 wards.
Other appointments coming
The notification and Prasad’s appointment will also pave the way for the appointment of various zonal commissioners and enforcement of other provisions mentioned in the new law.
