Bengaluru: Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar on Tuesday announced that a meeting involving opposition leaders, concerned MLAs, and senior officials will be convened to address issues related to the Jalahalli Underpass project, which has been facing delays due to land acquisition and compensation disputes.
Replying to a question raised by BJP MLA Muniraj during the Question Hour in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly, Shivakumar said the project was awarded to PGB Constructions in 2021 at an initial cost of ₹57 crore.
He informed the House that 48 property owners have already been compensated, while a total compensation of ₹85 crore has been disbursed so far. The overall land acquisition cost is estimated at ₹139 crore, and 26 property owners are yet to hand over their land, for which ₹53 crore is pending either as cash compensation or Transferable Development Rights (TDR).
Shivakumar stated that if local MLA Muniraj holds discussions with the remaining landowners, the government is prepared to offer TDRs to facilitate the start of the pending work. “This is a high-traffic corridor, and the demands raised by landowners are reasonable,” he added.
Responding to BJP MLA Munirathna, who demanded a joint meeting to address stalled flyover projects across constituencies, Shivakumar said, “MLAs should raise constituency-specific issues in the House. I will respond accordingly.”
Special Focus on Somasekhar’s Constituency
Addressing concerns raised by MLA S.T. Somasekhar regarding delays in white-topping work on Holiday Village Road, Shivakumar assured priority attention. He said the work had been awarded to Ocean Construction, but delays were caused due to utility shifting issues, including BWSSB pipelines and power line relocation.
“Blacklisting contractors is easy, but completing the work is our priority. I assure special attention to Somasekhar’s constituency,” Shivakumar said.
