Belagavi: High drama unfolded in Belagavi on Saturday during the District Central Cooperative (DCC) Bank elections, as rival factions led by Jarkiholi brothers and Laxman Savadi clashed for control. In a decisive outcome, the Jarkiholi faction secured a majority, winning nine out of the 16 director posts, marking a clear political statement in the district’s cooperative sector.
Seven candidates from the Jarkiholi camp were elected unopposed, while two more clinched victory in Saturday’s polls. With this, the Jarkiholi brothers have effectively tightened their grip over one of the region’s most influential financial institutions.
Savadi Camp Faces Setback
The defeat came as a blow to Laxman Savadi and his associate Ramesh Katti, who had campaigned extensively to wrest control of the bank. Their faction managed limited success, as Mallanna Yadwad, who had earlier supported the Savadi group, is now seen aligning with the Jarkiholi camp following the results.
“The results were on expected lines. We had clear ground support and organisational strength,” said a Jarkiholi loyalist after the win.

Political Significance
The Belagavi DCC Bank has long been a political battleground for regional leaders, with control over the cooperative sector translating to influence in rural politics. Observers note that this victory will further consolidate the Jarkiholi family’s position in Belagavi’s political landscape ahead of future electoral contests.
The polls witnessed strong mobilisation from both camps, with supporters gathering near the polling centre leading to brief moments of tension, though police maintained order throughout.
With nine seats in hand and control over key committees, the Jarkiholi brothers have once again demonstrated their dominance in the cooperative power structure of North Karnataka.
