Nelamangala (Bengaluru Rural): Amid growing concerns over a spate of jewellery shop robberies across Karnataka, an armed robbery attempt was reported at a jewellery store in Nelamangala’s Dasanapura area on Tuesday evening, triggering fresh questions over law and order.
According to police, three unidentified men arrived on a motorcycle and stormed into ‘Ramdev Jewellery Shop’ brandishing what appeared to be a gun. One of the accused allegedly threatened the shop owner at gunpoint, while another grabbed him by the neck, creating panic inside the store. A third accomplice entered the shop and attempted to loot gold ornaments from the display counters.
However, two youths present inside the shop — identified as Vishnu and Gautham — showed remarkable courage and resisted the robbers, raising an alarm. As shouting and commotion intensified, the accused panicked and fled the scene within minutes after grabbing a limited quantity of jewellery.
Neighbouring Shop Owner Fights Back
In a dramatic turn, a woman running a neighbouring jewellery shop also confronted the robbers with a stick, forcing them to retreat further. During the chaos, a mobile phone reportedly slipped from one of the accused, which has since been handed over to the police and is being examined as a crucial lead.
Gun Authenticity Under Scrutiny
Police are currently verifying whether the weapon used in the incident was a real firearm or a dummy, while Madanayakanahalli Police have launched a detailed investigation, including analysis of CCTV footage from the surrounding area.
The incident comes just a day after a similar armed jewellery shop robbery was reported in Chadachan, Vijayapura district, pointing to a worrying pattern. Residents and traders have expressed concern over the apparent fearlessness of criminals and the increasing targeting of jewellery stores in daylight hours.
Police have intensified patrols in the region and assured that efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the suspects at the earliest.
