Bengaluru: Amid rising speculation over leadership changes in Karnataka, Bamul Chairman D. K. Suresh on Saturday said that destiny alone would decide who becomes Chief Minister.
“If it is written in fate, my elder brother (DK Shivakumar) will become Chief Minister. If not, no one can make it happen,” he said while responding to media queries at his Sadashivanagar residence.
When asked whether he had laid down his “weapons” in the political battle, Suresh replied in a lighter vein, stating that one needs a weapon to renounce it. “I never claimed to have any weapon. Without one, there is no question of surrendering it,” he remarked. He reiterated that patience remains the only “weapon” he believes in and stressed that politics does not require arms or war tactics.
Responding to questions about reports of legislators travelling to Delhi to discuss leadership change with the Congress high command, Suresh said he had no information about such a move. “You should ask the MLAs themselves,” he said, adding that any internal discussions would be handled by the party.
On suggestions that internal differences could hurt the party in the 2028 Assembly elections, he observed that it may create difficulties for those contesting the polls but declined to elaborate further.
When asked about statements that if Siddaramaiah were to be replaced, a Dalit leader should be made CM, Suresh responded that everyone has aspirations and there is nothing wrong in that.
On speculation about efforts to install his brother D. K. Shivakumar as Chief Minister and whether he commands sufficient MLA support, Suresh avoided a direct answer. He instead said questions related to legislators should be directed elsewhere and invited queries related to Bamul if any.
His remarks come at a time when political circles in Karnataka are abuzz with rumours of possible leadership discussions within the ruling Congress.
