Bengaluru: A 59-year-old man has been arrested on charges of forging medical and income documents to falsely claim money from the Karnataka Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
Police said the accused created fake hospital records and income certificates to apply for assistance meant for genuine beneficiaries. He reportedly tried to obtain several lakhs of rupees before officials noticed irregularities in his paperwork.
Investigators said the suspect procured counterfeit documents from undisclosed sources to support his application. Once the fraud came to light, the government halted his claim and launched a probe into the verification process to prevent similar scams.
Authorities cautioned the public that the relief fund is intended for those in genuine need and urged citizens to remain vigilant against offers of easy money. Further investigation is under way to determine if others were involved.
