Concern grows after several ‘Black Fungus’ cases found among Covid patients in Bengaluru
BENGALURU:
Following several cases of the deadly mucormycosis (Black Fungus) found in Covid-19 patients in Bengaluru, the Karnataka government has sought a detailed report in the new development from the Technical Advisory Committee. ‘Black Fungus’ is an infection that affects the nose, mouth, lungs and eyes, and is generally fatal once it infects the brain.
On Wednesday morning, Health Minister Dr K Sudhakar said the report is expected to reach him in the next two days and appropriate steps will be taken “once it is studied in detail.”
“I have asked the Covid Technical Advisory Committee to study the Black Fungus thoroughly and report to the government within two days,” he said.
Ventilators for taluks
Dr Sudhakar said he has given strict instructions to install ventilators in all taluk hospitals, and that they should start functioning within 3 days.
Further, hospitals which are facing shortages of anesthesia specialists and physicians should take assistance from nearby medical colleges or hospitals.”The process of recruiting 2,480 medical staff, including 780 specialist doctors, is underway and will be completed shortly,” he added.
