Bengaluru: The Karnataka High Court has dismissed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by local residents demanding the construction of a Namma Metro station at Chikkajala on the Phase 2B Blue Line, which connects KR Puram to Kempegowda International Airport.
The division bench comprising Chief Justice Vibhu Bakhru and Justice C.M. Joshi heard the petition filed by C.R. Naveen Kumar and six other Chikkajala residents, who had questioned the decision to drop the station proposal.
The bench observed that deciding the location and number of stations on a metro route is the prerogative of the concerned authorities, not the court. The order further stated that issues related to metro route planning, station feasibility, and alignment fall under the exclusive purview of the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) and other competent agencies.
However, the court directed BMRCL to respond to the petitioners’ request for information regarding why the proposed station at Chikkajala was excluded.
With this ruling, the court clarified that infrastructure planning, including metro station construction on the airport line, must be decided by technical and administrative authorities rather than through judicial intervention.
