Karnataka Legislative Council Completes First-Ever Direct Recruitment for 28 Vacancies Through KEA

Bengaluru: In a historic first in the functioning of the Karnataka Legislative Council, a transparent and rule-based direct recruitment process was successfully completed for 28 vacant officer and staff positions through the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA).

The recruitment marks the first time in the history of the Legislative Council that vacant posts were filled through a written competitive examination conducted by KEA, eliminating ambiguity and ensuring fairness in selection.

Following the completion of the recruitment process, appointment letters were formally distributed to the selected candidates on January 3, by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah at an official function in Bengaluru.

Officials said the entire recruitment exercise was carried out strictly in accordance with established rules and procedures, with an emphasis on transparency, merit, and accountability. The process was completed without controversy, reinforcing public confidence in institutional hiring practices.

The initiative is being viewed as a benchmark reform in legislative administration, setting a precedent for future recruitments in constitutional bodies across the state. By entrusting the examination process to KEA, the Legislative Council ensured a neutral and standardized evaluation mechanism.

Government sources said the move aligns with the state’s broader commitment to clean governance and merit-based public employment, and could serve as a model for similar institutions seeking to modernize recruitment systems.
