BENGALURU:
The Karnataka Government promulgated Karnataka epidemic disease ordinance 2020 to protect healthcare workers engaged in covid-19 related duties in state.
The ordinance passed by Governor VajuBhai Vala has provided imprisonment of 6 months to 3 years and a fine of upto Rs 50,000 for the offences punishable under this law.
The new ordinance has stringent punishment to persons who come in the way of official for not allowing them to furnish their duties or even vandalise public or private properties.
The state cabinet headed by Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Monday had decided to promulgate the ordinance in view of its urgency on the similar lines of Kerala and Uttar Pradesh.
