All Karnataka taluk and district hospitals to get oxygen generating plants: DyCM
BENGALURU:
To meet the rise in demand for Remdesivir in the state, 5 lakh vials of the antiviral medicine will be procured through a global tender, Deputy Chief Minister and state Covid Task Force head Dr CN Ashwath Narayan said on Thursday.
Addressing a presser convened by Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa, he said the government was making every effort to ensure the supply of required drugs, materials and medical consumables on time to hospitals.
Action has been taken to procure 15,000 oxygen concentrators. Out of this, an order has been already placed for 3,000 oxygen concentrators, and for the remaining 12,000 concentrators a global tender will be floated soon, Narayan said.
Salaries and incentives for medical students/internees who have been roped in for Covid duty are being paid and they have been given relaxations to facilitate their involvement in Covid duty, he said.
Physical triaging at the primary level will be augmented to avoid unnecessary hospitalization. Priority will be given to setting up oxygen generation plants in all the taluk and district hospitals, and steps will be taken to ensure buffer stocks of medical essentials in every district, he said.
Narayan noted that the state’s oxygen demand, which was at 100-150 tonnes a day during March, has suddenly surged to 1,200 tonnes a day. This was not anticipated by anybody, he said. He added that RAT and RT-PCR tests, and providing Remdesivir, are being done free of cost.
