Belagavi/Bengaluru: In a strong message aimed at cleaning up the system, Transport and Muzrai Minister Ramalinga Reddy announced that RTO officials will be held directly responsible if middlemen (brokers) are found operating inside Regional Transport Offices. Strict disciplinary action will follow in all such cases, he warned.
Responding to a starred question by Dr. Umashree in the Legislative Council, the Minister said that several measures have already been introduced to bring discipline and transparency to RTO offices.
All applications submitted at RTOs must be handled strictly in prescribed formats, and case files must be maintained only by authorised staff. Superintendents have been instructed to review these files weekly, while monthly desk inspections and compliance reports must be forwarded to higher authorities, as per a circular issued by the Transport Commissioner.

The Minister reiterated that no RTO should allow middlemen inside office premises. “If brokers are found in any office, the officials concerned will be held accountable and disciplinary action will be initiated as per rules,” he said.
To discourage the public from relying on agents, information boards have been installed inside RTO premises, guiding citizens to directly approach officials instead of middlemen.
Details of the Lokayukta office address and contact numbers have also been displayed prominently.
Further, to curb the influence of brokers, the department has shifted 52 transport-related services online from November 1, 2021, enabling citizens to access services digitally without depending on intermediaries.
