Bengaluru, February 19: A police case has been registered in Bengaluru following a complaint filed by the Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) over alleged misleading claims made on social media regarding the safety of certain Nandini products, officials said.
The complaint pertains to a reel uploaded on February 8, 2026, in which Dr Sharanya Padma, identified as a dermatologist, allegedly described select Nandini products — including cream bun, strawberry flavoured milk and certain beverages — as “toxic” and containing chemicals. The video reportedly suggested that regular consumption could lead to autoimmune disorders and even cancer in the long term.
According to the complaint, the video also questioned how such products were approved for manufacturing and marketing, and alleged that consumers’ health could be adversely affected.
KMF, in its submission to the police, termed the allegations as “baseless and misleading,” stating that the federation strictly adheres to all food safety standards prescribed by statutory authorities, including the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). The federation maintained that Nandini milk and milk products are safe for consumption and said such statements had caused unnecessary concern among consumers.
KMF had issued a press release on February 18, 2026, condemning what it described as defamatory and reputation-damaging claims, and indicated that it would initiate legal proceedings against individuals spreading unverified information.
Based on the complaint, a case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, and the Information Technology Act, 2000. Further investigation is underway, police said.
