Bengaluru: A tragic incident was reported in Anekal taluk’s Jigani police limits, where a young couple in a live-in relationship was found dead by suicide at their rented house in Kallubalu village on the city’s outskirts.
The deceased have been identified as Rakesh Patra (23) and Seema Nayak (25), both natives of Dhenkanal district, Odisha, and employees in the housekeeping section of British Biologicals, an industrial unit in Jigani.
According to police sources, the couple had rented the house around 10 to 12 days ago and paid a rent of ₹3,500. On October 21, when the house remained locked since Sunday, the landlord grew suspicious and informed the police.
“When our team reached the spot, we broke open the door and found both hanging inside. Preliminary investigation revealed that Rakesh had first hanged himself, after which Seema reportedly cut the rope with a knife and then took her own life,” said a police officer from Jigani station.
Police added that the two were not married but were living together. Locals told police that Rakesh had a habit of drinking and had fought with Seema on Sunday after consuming alcohol.
“The exact reason behind the suicide will be known after we contact their families in Odisha,” officials added.
The Jigani police have registered a case and are investigating further. The bodies have been sent to a local hospital for postmortem examination.
