Bengaluru: In a pivotal ruling for the Malur Assembly constituency, a court‑mandated recount has reaffirmed the election of Congress legislator K. Y. Nanjegowda, bringing closure to a protracted legal challenge. Nanjegowda had won the seat by 248 votes, but opponents contested the result. After months of legal proceedings, the court ordered the ballots to be counted again.
The recount confirmed the original result, prompting Nanjegowda to express gratitude to his supporters and colleagues. “We have always had faith in the Constitution drafted by Babasaheb Ambedkar; it has upheld justice,” he said. He acknowledged that the prolonged legal battle had caused strain for his constituents and family but said today’s judgment provided vindication. Looking ahead, he emphasised that he would set aside political controversies and concentrate on accelerating development in Malur.
