Bengaluru: In yet another tragic road accident near the city, five young men were killed after their car collided with a KSRTC bus on the Bengaluru-Nelamangala highway late Saturday night.
The accident occurred around 11:30 PM near the Jindal flyover under the Madanayakanahalli police limits. According to police, the Indica car, which was travelling from Tumakuru towards Bengaluru, allegedly jumped the divider and rammed into a KSRTC bus heading in the opposite direction.
All five occupants of the car died in the collision. The deceased include Harshith and Nikhith from Doddaballapur, while the identities of three others are yet to be officially confirmed. Harshith was reportedly a second-year degree student at Sai Vidya College in Rajanukunte.
The impact of the collision left the car completely mangled, while the front portion of the bus was damaged. Fortunately, none of the 42 passengers on board the KSRTC bus sustained serious injuries.
Police said four victims died on the spot, while the critically injured driver was rushed to Nelamangala Government Hospital but later succumbed to injuries.
Preliminary investigation suggests that overspeeding may have led to the fatal accident. The youths had reportedly gone on a late-night outing without informing their families and were returning to Bengaluru when the tragedy struck.
A case has been registered at Madanayakanahalli Police Station, and further investigation is underway.
