Currently, 26 triaging centres are operational in BBMP limits
BENGALURU:
After opening 26 triaging centres — one in each assembly constituency in BBMP limits –the civic agency has now decided to open such triaging centres in each BBMP ward.
BBMP Chief Commissioner Gaurav Gupta on Friday said that at present BBMP has 26 such centres in Covid Care Centres and maternity hospitals in the 8 zones of Bengaluru. Now, the civic agency intends to open these centres in all the wards.

‘Docs will decide’
Gupta said people with symptoms of Covid-19 need not contact BBMP but can walk into the triaging centres where physicians will assess their condition and recommend home isolation, treatment at Covid Care Centres or hospitalisation. Medical equipment like thermal scanners, pulse oximeters, consumables/medications are in place at these centres.
The Chief Commissioner said ward-level nodal officers have been appointed as nodal officers of the triaging centres. A 24-hour call facility is also available at these centres.
BBMP’s Special Commissioner Randeep D said that earlier, a team of doctors would assess the condition of the patient through tele-triage for the purpose of blocking beds.
Walk-in treatment
To make the process simpler, 26 triaging centres are operational at Covid Care Centres, maternity hospitals and Covid hospitals where patients can walk in for treatment. Doctors will physically triage the patient and recommend the appropriate treatment, he said.

Randeep said the triaging centres will have oxygen facilities for those in need. In case of further assistance, beds will be arranged for patients by contacting the war rooms. Zonal commissioners, Joint Commissioners and health officials are working on identifying areas to set up the ward-level triage centres, he said.
Special Commissioner Rajendra Cholan said 3 doctors and 3 nurses will work round the clock at the triaging centres. Around 256 doctors and nurses have been deployed for the purpose. Arrangements have been made to give patients in home isolation Covid treatment kits.
