BENGALURU:
BBMP and the Health Department will jointly inspect wards within a 100-metre radius of Padarayanapura as a precautionary measure. A final decision will be taken on Monday as the civic agency is yet to finalise the locations to conduct testing.
A total of 44 people have so far been diagnosed with the coronavirus in Padarayanapura. This number is likely to increase with the plan to screen 25,000 people in neighbouring areas.
Earlier, Padarayanapura was sealed. Subsequently, Health Department staff were attacked while identifying cases for quarantine. More than 120 people were arrested in this connection, and later some of them tested positive for Covid-19.
Since then, positive cases have been reported from Padarayanapura regularly, and this has led to a fear psychosis among people in the neighbouring wards. Now, BBMP and the Health Department plan to check for the spread of the virus in these wards.
More than 25,000 people will be tested, especially in areas like Pipeline Road and Telecom Railway Road, Health Department officials said.
