Bengaluru, Sept 10: Relief has come for Kannada actor Darshan, lodged in Parappana Agrahara Central Prison, after a court directive ensured he was provided with a mattress, bedsheet, and basic amenities. The development follows Darshan’s emotional plea in court about the lack of comfort and hygiene in his jail cell.
Darshan’s Complaint in Court
On Tuesday, Darshan told the court that his cell lacked even the most basic facilities, including a bed and pillow, and that he was forced to sleep amidst mosquitoes and unhygienic conditions. The actor reportedly said he was unable to stay peacefully and even pleaded, “Give me poison, at least I cannot live like this.”
Taking note of his plea, the court ordered prison authorities to provide Darshan with essential facilities.
Facilities Provided
By Tuesday, prison officials confirmed that Darshan was given a mattress, bedsheet, and permission to walk near his cell. His health was also checked by jail doctors on Tuesday night.
Court Rejects Transfer Plea
Meanwhile, the court rejected a petition to shift Darshan and his associates to Ballari Central Prison, filed by jail authorities citing security concerns. This decision came as a relief to the actor.
Prison officials are now considering whether to move him from his current cell to a security barrack. A final decision will be made after the Chief Superintendent of Parappana Agrahara Prison, currently away in Hyderabad for training, returns on Saturday.
