Bengaluru: In a major crackdown on international drug trafficking, officials of the Bengaluru Customs Department at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) intercepted a passenger carrying a massive consignment of cocaine worth several crores.
Customs officers deployed at Terminal 2 apprehended a passenger who had arrived from São Paulo, Brazil, and recovered 7.72 kilograms of cocaine concealed in his baggage. The seized narcotics are estimated to have a street value of approximately ₹38.60 crore, making it one of the significant drug seizures at the Bengaluru airport in recent times.
Following the recovery, the passenger was immediately taken into custody, and a detailed investigation was launched to determine possible international links and the intended distribution network within India.
A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, and further interrogation is underway to ascertain whether the accused is part of a larger cross-border drug syndicate.
Customs officials stated that surveillance and profiling measures at the airport have been intensified to curb the rising attempts to smuggle narcotics into the country through international routes.
