Bengaluru: Karnataka Home Minister Dr. G Parameshwara on Wednesday confirmed that senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will visit Bengaluru on August 4 to lead a protest march against the Election Commission of India (ECI), alleging electoral irregularities in the state.
Speaking to the media outside his residence, Dr. Parameshwara said, “Rahul Gandhi has already raised strong concerns about election malpractices at the national level. Similar incidents have taken place in Karnataka. Hence, he will visit the state and submit a representation to the Election Commission.”
The Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) is organising the event, during which party leaders and workers will march to the ECI office and hand over a memorandum.
“A tentative plan is being prepared, and our KPCC president and Chief Minister will finalise the schedule. Tentatively, the programme will begin at Freedom Park, where Rahul Gandhi is expected to address party workers. From there, we will proceed to meet the Election Commission officials,” Parameshwara stated.

He also mentioned that the High Court had issued a 2022 ruling restricting protest processions in certain areas. “We are aware of that order, and our program will comply with the legal guidelines,” he assured.
When asked about security arrangements given Rahul Gandhi’s high-profile presence, the Home Minister clarified, “It is not a protest procession in the traditional sense. If Rahul Gandhi comes directly to the spot at Freedom Park, security arrangements will be made accordingly. There is no question of a law and order concern.”
The event is being positioned as a major political show of strength by the Congress, protesting what they allege are ongoing electoral manipulations and demanding fair and transparent elections in Karnataka.
