Bengaluru: An alarming email threat to bomb the residences of Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar has triggered a high-level security response in Bengaluru. Police confirmed that a suo motu case has been registered at the Halasuru Gate Police Station and that an investigation is currently underway to trace the sender.
According to police officials, the threatening email was sent on October 11 from a specific email ID to the Tamil Nadu Director General of Police (DGP). The message allegedly claimed that four RDX and advanced IED explosives had been planted at the residences of the CM and DyCM, with plans to detonate them remotely.
Following the email alert, Bomb Detection and Disposal Squads (BDDS) conducted extensive searches at both residences as a precautionary measure.
However, no explosives were found, a senior police officer confirmed, adding that all security agencies have been instructed to remain on alert.
The Bengaluru police have registered a case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections 351(4) (criminal intimidation) and 353(1)(B) (statements causing public mischief), and cybercrime experts are working to identify the origin of the email.
Official Statement:
“We are investigating the source of the email and have already alerted national and state-level cyber monitoring units. So far, no evidence of explosives has been found, but we are treating the threat with utmost seriousness,” said a senior police officer overseeing the probe.
