Gadag SHG, selected as best nationwide, felicitated at Vidhana Soudha

To support self-help groups (SHGs) under the DAY-NRLM (Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Rural Livelihood Mission) a sum of Rs 149.03 crore has been sanctioned for 2021-22.
Speaking at a function at Vidhana Soudha on Thursday, DyCM Dr CN Ashwath Narayan, who also holds the portfolio of skill development, entrepreneurship and livelihood, said a sum of Rs 400 crore will be provided in the current year to support the activities of SHGs through KSRLPS (Karnataka State Rural Livelihood Promotion Society).
The fund will benefit more than 17 lakh rural beneficiaries belonging to about 1,700 SHGs and will be used for activities like agriculture, horticulture, animal husbandry, fisheries, cottage industries, purchase of lightweight vehicles, tailoring, canteen, other non-farming activities and service sectors, the DyCM said.
National-level winner
On the occasion, representatives of the Renukadevi SHG of Gadag district, which has been selected as the best SHG at the national level for 2019-20, were felicitated.
The SHG, which is a member of the Sanjeevini Federation in Magadi village panchayat of Shirahatti taluk, was presented a cash award of Rs 1 Lakh. The SHG had emerged the winner out of 1,500 nominated SHGs and 35 shortlisted SHGs.
SR Vishwanath, Chairperson, BDA, Selvakumar, Secretary, Dept of Skill Development, Entrepreneurship and Livelihood, and Manjusri, Executive Director, NRLM, were among those present.
