Weavers get Rs 109 crore loan write-off
BENGALURU:
The Karnataka government has announced a special relief package of Rs 1,610 crore for segments in distress due to the lockdown.
Flower growers whose business has been hit will get Rs 25,000 per hectare as compensation, while barbers, auto drivers and cab drivers, who have been unemployed for a month, will get Rs 5,000. A total of 7.75 lakh people will benefit from the government’s largeswse.
Fixed charges on the 2-month electricity bill for small and medium industries have been waived, while electricity bill payment for large industries has been waived for 2 months without interest.
The debts of weavers amounting to Rs 109 crore will be waived. Earlier, Rs 28 crore was released and the remaining money will be released at the earliest.
The government has decided to give back the money to weavers who had repaid loans of  Rs 1 lakh. Under the Neckar Samman scheme, 54,000 handloom weavers will get Rs. 2,000 a year in their bank accounts.
