19 in the same exam centre are quarantined
Statewide 25 Students infected; total 57 students quarantined
BENGALURU:
The state government’s safety measures for the ongoing SSLC exams have come under the scanner after a student who wrote the Math paper at a centre in Mallapatna Government School in Arkalgud taluk of Hassan district tested positive for Covid-19.
Education Department officials said 19 students in the same hall as the infected student have been quarantined.
Primary and Secondary Education Minister S Suresh Kumar said, “The student had recovered from dengue recently and his throat swab was taken as he showed signs of ILI. The moment the test results came, the exam centre head was informed and the student was shifted to another room where he completed the exam. The student may be asymptomatic as he had a normal temperature.”

Officials said a decision will be taken on whether to allow the 19 quarantined students to continue with the exams or have them take the supplementaries in August. “We are monitoring their health and an expert committee will take a call on the matter,” an official said.
Minister Suresh Kumar said that following the case, it has been decided to bar students whose throat swabs have been taken from attending any more exams.
