Bengaluru: In a development that drew attention during the ongoing caste census survey in Karnataka, survey enumerators visited the residence of noted philanthropist Sudha Murty and Infosys founder Narayana Murthy today. However, the Murthy couple refused to participate in the caste census, stating in writing that they do not belong to any backward category and that the survey holds no relevance or benefit to them.
According to sources, the enumerators had arrived as part of the Karnataka caste census exercise being conducted across Bengaluru. The Murthy couple, while cooperating with the officials, politely declined to provide details for the enumeration and instead handed over a self-declaration letter explaining their position.

In their handwritten note, the Murthys clarified:
“We do not belong to any backward caste, nor will this survey provide any benefit to us. Hence, we are not participating in the caste census.”
The incident has become a talking point in Bengaluru’s civic and political circles, especially as the state government’s caste census initiative continues to face both support and opposition from different quarters.
