Bengaluru: The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has put in place a comprehensive preparedness plan to effectively manage water demand and potential scarcity during the upcoming summer, Chairman V. Ram Prasat Manohar said on Monday.
Reviewing summer preparedness at a high-level meeting with senior officials at the BWSSB headquarters, Dr Manohar said the Board is fully geared to handle the seasonal challenge across the city.
He stated that water-stress-prone and high-density localities have already been identified, and BWSSB has decided to install ‘mini water tanks’ (Syntex tanks) in such areas to ensure free drinking water supply to residents during peak summer months.
To keep these tanks filled, the Chairman directed officials to give priority to BWSSB tankers and mobile Cauvery water tankers, while engaging private tankers only in unavoidable situations.
Emphasising strict accountability, Dr Manohar cautioned officials against any laxity in summer water management. He instructed Chief Engineers, Assistant Executive Engineers and Water Inspectors to remain on the field instead of being confined to offices.
“Officials must visit their respective jurisdictions every day, closely monitor ground-level conditions, and ensure that water reaches all identified vulnerable areas without disruption,” the Chairman said, issuing firm directions.
The BWSSB’s summer action plan aims to ensure timely intervention, decentralised monitoring and uninterrupted drinking water supply, as Bengaluru braces for rising temperatures and increased water demand.
