BENGALURU:
Beefing up its Covid-19 prevention measures, South Western Railway has started thermal screening of passengers at railway stations.
Thermal screening is based on the process of detecting radiation emitted by an object, which increases with temperature; therefore, thermography allows one to see variations in temperature. The process has been put in place at seven stations — KSR Bengaluru, Mysuru, Hubballi, Gadag, Belagavi, Bijapur and Vasco da Gama.
Paramedical staff posted at these stations are doing thermal screening round the clock. However, as the footfall at KSR Bengaluru station is quite high, only sample checks are being done there.
Thermal screening has also been started at the SWR headquarters and the divisional office at Hubballi. Guidelines have been issued to railway staff returning from abroad to report to the medical authorities and quarantine themselves before joining duty.
