China has accused Taiwan of leveraging its semiconductor industry as a ‘souvenir’ to gain political favor with the United States. The statement, made during a news conference by Zhu Fenglian, spokesperson for China’s Taiwan Affairs Office, suggests Taiwan is attempting to curry favor with Washington by using its technological prowess as a bargaining chip.
