Citizens can dial 080 6191 4960 to avail oxygen concentrator for Covid and post-recovery use
BENGALURU:
Member of Parliament Tejasvi Surya on Sunday launched the ‘MP Oxy Bank’, an oxygen concentrator bank of 250 units for aiding treatment of Covid-19 and post-Covid patients in Bengaluru. In the coming days, the MP’s office plans to set up over 650 such concentrators.
Currently, 100 units are meant for Covid-19 patients and 150 for home oxygen support for those who have recovered.
“We have seen that the condition of patients suffering from mild symptoms suddenly deteriorates when the patient is not provided oxygen in time,” Surya, the Bengaluru South MP, said. “In this situation, where it takes a few hours for a patient to get a hospital bed, it is important that we begin the treatment for them at home. This golden hour treatment is done with the help of oxygen concentrators.”

Quick dispatch
A Covid patient can call up the Covid Raksha helpline on 080 6191 4960. Volunteers on the helpline will note down the name of the patient, age, phone number, oxygen saturation level, health condition and address. The patient has to upload his/her Aadhaar card, photo, pulse oximeter reading and the doctor’s prescription to avail the concentrator. The volunteers will verify the prescription details and dispatch the oxygen concentrator in a few hours. The dispatch is being done in autos and goods vehicles.
“We are managing 250 oxygen concentrators now and will be expanding to 650-800 soon,” Surya said. “It is most important to understand that an oxygen concentrator is not a substitute for hospitalisation. It is only to stabilise a patient with oxygen saturation levels of about 85-92 for a few hours, until the patient receives a hospital bed. Similarly, a patient being discharged from a hospital may also need the support of an oxygen concentrator to complete his or her recovery.”
Refundable deposit
Once a patient has recovered fully or has found a hospital bed, the oxygen concentrator is taken back, sanitised and provided for another. There is no rental fee for the oxygen concentrator, only a refundable deposit of Rs 3,000. The deposit is taken at the time of delivery and is refunded at the time of pick-up.
I thank NGOs like Namma Bengaluru Foundation, Action COVID-19 Team, Canada Sewa Intl, Vasavi Sewa Foundation, PayTM Foundation & Tarsadia Foundation for donating concentrators
