BENGALURU: A heart-wrenching event unfolded on the night of Sunday, April 14th, in Bengaluru, resulting in the loss of a 20-year-old life and injuries to two others. The incident occurred on SMV Road near Kommaghatta Circle, Kengeri, when a scooter carrying three individuals fell into a pit over 20-feet-deep dug up by the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB).
The deceased has been identified as Saddam Hussain, 20, while the injured are Umraz Pasha, 25, and Mubarak Pasha, also in their twenties. They are currently receiving treatment for their multiple injuries in the hospital.
The trio was returning home after visiting friends when the tragic accident took place. Riding three on a scooter, Saddam Hussein, the rider, was not wearing a helmet, as confirmed by traffic police.
The BWSSB was conducting work to lay water pipelines under the Cauvery Stage V project, which led to the excavation of the pits. Two barricades were placed around the pit, with one serving as a warning for motorists and the other positioned right next to the pit’s perimeter.
Saddam Hussein, in a reckless manner, crossed the first barricade, which was slightly open for pedestrians, and collided with the second barricade, causing the scooter and the trio to fall into the pit. Bystanders witnessed the accident and promptly alerted the police, who arrived at the scene and rushed the injured to a nearby hospital. Tragically, Saddam Hussein was pronounced dead upon arrival due to head injuries sustained from not wearing a helmet.
Kengeri Traffic Police have filed a case of negligence against both Saddam Hussein and the BWSSB engineer responsible for the pit. An investigation is currently underway to determine the exact cause of the accident.
