BENGALURU: A tech professional employed at a private artificial intelligence firm in Bengaluru has tragically taken his own life, reportedly due to overwhelming work pressure. The body of the deceased, identified as Nikhil Somwanshi, was discovered in Agara Lake, prompting the HSR Layout police to register a case of unnatural death.
Nikhil, an alumnus of the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), was working at a company located in Koramangala. Colleagues have alleged that his manager subjected him to severe harassment, which they believe contributed to his decision to end his life. Reports indicate that the US-based manager frequently mistreated new employees, creating a toxic work environment that led to a high turnover rate.
Colleagues described Nikhil as a bright and talented individual who was deeply affected by the company’s struggles, including financial losses and an increasing workload as employees resigned. They claim that the manager would often berate employees, particularly newcomers, during meetings, fostering a culture of fear and anxiety.
This tragic incident highlights the urgent need for addressing mental health and workplace culture within the tech industry, as well as the importance of creating supportive environments for all employees.
