Vijayapura: A light aircraft crashed near Mangaluru village close to Babaleshwar in Vijayapura district on Sunday. The two pilots onboard narrowly escaped death and sustained injuries in the incident.
The aircraft was being operated as part of a training flight. Captain Kunal Malhotra, who was conducting the training, and trainee pilot Gautam were injured and were immediately shifted to BLDE Hospital, Vijayapura, for further medical treatment.
The aircraft, identified as a Cessna 172 (Tango Charlie) belonging to Red Bird Aviation, was flying from Kalaburagi to Belagavi when it went down near Babaleshwar under circumstances that are yet to be officially clarified.
Local residents rushed to the crash site and assisted in rescuing the injured pilots. They were transported to the hospital by ambulance, where they are currently undergoing treatment.
Authorities are expected to conduct a detailed inquiry to ascertain the cause of the crash.
