A 39-year-old truck driver is the second Covid-positive case to be reported in Chamarajanagar district,
Speaking at a news conference on Saturday, Deputy Commissioner Dr MR Ravi said the driver, who resides in the Housing Board colony in Gundlupet town, had been to Tamil Nadu thrice recently. On June 18, he went to the Gundlupet taluk hospital with a cough, where his swab sample was taken. On June 19, he tested positive.
The man has been admitted to the designated hospital, while his wife, three children and 10 others have been home quarantined.
The deputy commissioner said Gundlupet was now the first containment zone in the district and an Incident Commander had been appointed to keep a check on public movement. All essentials would be provided at the doorstep of residents and intensive screening would be undertaken.
Ravi said an infected medical student from Mumbai has been discharged after recovery and is now in a relative’s home for 14 days’ quarantine. The youth will be sent back to Mumbai later.
SP Anandakumar said a case under the NDMA and the IPC had been filed against the student’s brother-in-law for whisking him away upon arrival at the Bengaluru city railway station without informing the authorities.
