Bengaluru, January 6: In a shocking case of betrayal of trust, Sadashivanagar police have arrested a domestic help and her husband for allegedly stealing gold jewellery, cash and luxury watches worth ₹1.37 crore from a house whose owners had stepped out for New Year celebrations.
The accused have been identified as Hazira Begum, a native of West Bengal, and her husband Shahir. Police recovered 787 grams of gold jewellery, 291 grams of silver ornaments and seven expensive watches, collectively valued at ₹1.37 crore.
According to the police, Hazira Begum had worked as a domestic help at the residence of Abhishek, a Sadashivanagar resident, for several years before quitting the job three years ago citing marriage. With the New Year approaching, she returned and expressed interest in rejoining work. Trusting her due to past familiarity, the family allowed her back into the household.
On December 30, Abhishek and his family travelled to Tamil Nadu to celebrate the New Year. Taking advantage of the family’s absence, Hazira allegedly called her husband to the house and used the house keys to steal jewellery and valuables before fleeing.
The theft came to light on December 31, when the family returned home and found the valuables missing. A complaint was immediately lodged at the Sadashivanagar police station.
Following a swift investigation, police traced and arrested both accused and recovered the stolen valuables. A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway to ascertain if the accused were involved in similar crimes elsewhere.
