Case registered; doubts over its ownership
BENGALURU:
In a tragic incident, a ‘pet’ elephant killed its mahout at the Sri Sri Ravi Shankar Guruji Ashram on the outskirts of the city. The mahout, Rajesh (34), was from Kerala. The tusker reportedly trampled him under its feet.
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar reportedly has two elephants in the Ashram, and Rajesh was taking care of them for around 8 years.
Forest Department officials visited the ashram, and a case has been registered at the Kagalipura police station.
Elephants are by law not allowed to be kept as ‘pets’, and it is alleged that the ownership of the tuskers at the Ashram is under question.
