BENGALURU:
At a time when the need of the hour is to unite against the coronavirus, communal bigotry has raised it’s head in Ramanagaram district, sending out a wrong message to the public.
A video allegedly posted on social media on Friday by a Gram Panchayat member in Ramanagaram says ‘Muslim community are not supposed to go out and work.’
One tweet reads: “Communal tensions in rural Karnataka are rising. Announcement in Ramnagar district: Muslims are not allowed in the village. No one is allowed to work for them. If you do, pay a fine of Rs 500-1000.”
In response, prinicipal secretary of the Rural Development and Panchayat Raj, L K Atheeq, has tweeted: “It is a minor mischief involving a GP member and two other people. The Gram Panchayat itself has no role.
“A case has been booked against three persons. Generalisations about communal tensions are not really warranted. CEO ZP Ramnagara @Ikrum_shariff to take necessary action.”
