Bengaluru: A tragic construction site accident in Bengaluru claimed the lives of two migrant workers after a massive soil collapse at Siddharth Colony near Madiwala on Monday. The deceased have been identified as Lal Madan (33) and Rajavuddin (30), both hailing from Jharkhand. Another worker, Saifulla, was seriously injured and is undergoing treatment at a private hospital.
According to police, the mishap occurred when a 20-foot-deep pit was being dug to lay building pillars. While three workers were inside, a large volume of loosened soil suddenly caved in, trapping them underneath. Lal Madan and Rajavuddin died on the spot, while Saifulla was rescued in critical condition.
The incident has raised concerns about construction safety standards in Bengaluru, as the deep excavation reportedly lacked proper reinforcement. Police from Madiwala station visited the spot, registered a case, and detained the site engineer for questioning. Investigations are underway to identify the building owner and determine whether safety norms were violated.
“This is not just an accident but a lapse in precautionary measures. We will probe who authorized such deep excavation without safeguards,” a police officer said.
The tragedy highlights the plight of migrant construction workers in Bengaluru, who often work under hazardous conditions without adequate safety equipment.
