Ballari: An unoccupied model house at the G Square layout in Ballari was set on fire by unidentified miscreants, triggering fresh tension in the region and prompting a police investigation into possible motives, including political provocation.
According to preliminary information, the model house—constructed as a sample structure for a proposed residential layout spread across around 109 acres—was completely gutted in the incident. The property is linked to a development project associated with G. Janardhana Reddy and B. Sriramulu, sources said.
The structure was not occupied at the time of the incident. Visuals from the spot showed severe damage, with interiors charred, furniture destroyed, window glass shattered, and doors forcibly removed. Fire and Emergency Services personnel rushed to the scene and managed to bring the blaze under control.
Police officials said forensic and fire investigation teams (FSL) were deployed to the site to collect evidence. Senior officers also visited the location as part of the probe. Authorities stated that initial evidence collection faced challenges due to the condition of the site, but further examination is underway to determine whether the fire was intentional arson or caused by other factors.
The incident comes against the backdrop of heightened political tension in Ballari following a recent controversy over banner installations. During that episode, political tempers flared amid BJP versus Congress exchanges, and a controversial statement attributed to Bharath Reddy had drawn sharp reactions, adding to the charged atmosphere.
Following the fire incident, BJP workers staged protests near Royal Circle late in the night, demanding the immediate arrest of those responsible. Party leaders alleged that the act was deliberate and aimed at destabilising peace in the region.
Police have said that all angles—including political rivalry, vandalism, and criminal intent—are being examined, and additional forensic teams are expected to revisit the site to strengthen the evidence trail.
With emotions running high, Ballari remains tense but under control, officials said, adding that adequate security arrangements have been put in place to prevent any escalation.
