Bengaluru/Belagavi: The Karnataka government has distanced itself from a controversy triggered by the circulation of an unverified video on social media, which allegedly shows a senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer in a compromising situation.
The officer concerned, Ramachandra Rao, who holds a DGP-rank position, has categorically denied the authenticity of the video, calling it “fabricated” and stating that he would be consulting legal counsel to examine available remedies.
Home Minister Declines Meeting
Amid growing political and public attention, Home Minister Dr. G. Parameshwara reportedly declined to meet the officer, who had sought an audience to present his explanation. Sources confirmed that the officer was informed at the gate that the minister was not available to receive him.
Government officials have maintained that no conclusions can be drawn at this stage, and that any action would depend on verification and due process.

CM: Action Only If Allegations Are Established
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, speaking from Belagavi, stated that the matter had come to his notice and emphasized that disciplinary action would follow only if allegations are established through inquiry.
“No one is above the law. If wrongdoing is proven, appropriate action will be taken as per rules,” the Chief Minister said, without commenting on the authenticity of the video.

IPS Officer Rejects Claims, Raises Fabrication Angle
Addressing the media, Ramachandra Rao said the video was not genuine and warned against drawing conclusions based on viral content.
“In today’s technological environment, it is possible to create fabricated visuals. This video is shocking to me as well. I will be discussing this with my advocate and seeking a proper investigation,” he said.
He also claimed that the video was being linked to him without verification, and reiterated that no official probe has yet established its origin or authenticity.

Political Reactions on Social Media
Meanwhile, Janata Dal (Secular) shared a post on social media platform X, making political allegations and demanding action. Government sources clarified that these statements represent political opinion, and do not constitute official findings.
