
BENGALURU:
A bronze statue of freedom fighter Veer Savarkar was unveiled on Saturday near the Yediyur commercial complex.
“Savarkar is the only freedom fighter to have been jailed for 14 years during the country’s freedom struggle. His patriotism and love for country were exemplary,” said Mayor M Goutham Kumar at the event.
The statue is 5.5 feet tall, weighs 500 kg and cost Rs 5 lakh to make. Important details of Savarkar’s life are inscribed at the base.
Among those present at the event were BBMP Commissioner N Manjunatha Prasad, Deputy Mayor Ramamohan Raju, corporator Purnima Ramesh, South Zone Joint Commissioner VN Veerabhadraswamy and former corporator NR Ramesh.
