Bengaluru: Former India fast bowler Venkatesh Prasad is all set to become the next President of the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) after emerging as the sole valid candidate for the post. Officials confirmed on Tuesday that the nomination filed by the only other contestant was rejected during scrutiny, clearing Prasad’s path for an unopposed victory.
The Karnataka High Court had earlier directed the KSCA to conduct elections. The last date for the withdrawal of nominations was November 26.
Prasad and K.N. Shantha Kumar, Director of The Printers (Mysore) Pvt. Ltd., had filed nominations for the top post. However, during Monday’s scrutiny, Shantha Kumar’s nomination was declared invalid, leaving Prasad as the only eligible candidate. Officials said he has now been elected unopposed, and a formal announcement is likely on Wednesday.
Prasad, who represents the ‘Team Game Changers’ panel, earlier served as KSCA Vice-President from 2010 to 2013 under then-president Anil Kumble, with Javagal Srinath as Secretary. His return marks a significant comeback after 12 years.
In a related development, the nomination of former KSCA treasurer Vinay Mrutyunjaya for the Secretary post was rejected on technical grounds, dealing a setback to the Team Game Changers panel.
Following scrutiny, former KSCA treasurer E.S. Jairam and former KSCA secretary Santosh Menon (both from Team Brijesh) along with former India batter Sujith Somasunder (Team Game Changers) have been deemed eligible candidates for the Secretary’s position.
