Family had kept house door open due to humidity

In an incident that has caused panic among localites in Ramanagara district, a leopard entered a house in the early hours of Saturday and dragged out a 3-year-old boy. The partly-eaten body of the boy was found later in a forested area nearby.
The gruesome incident came to light on Saturday morning when his parents found the boy missing. The local MLA and cops from the Magadi police station, along with forest officials, rushed to the spot on hearing of the incident.
Sources said the family had left their house door open due to the humidity, as it had rained on Friday evening.
“The number of leopards is growing in this area. Recently, two of them were caught. Barely 500 metres away from the boy’s house, the forest department had installed a cage to catch the leopard, but fate decided otherwise,” said an officer.
Rs 7.5 lakh compensation
The administration has announced compensation of Rs 7.5 lakh for the boy’s family.
