Bengaluru, December 16: Large parts of Bengaluru will face water supply disruption on December 17 (Wednesday) following the detection of a major leak in the Cauvery Phase-5 water supply project, the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) announced on Tuesday.

BWSSB Chairman Dr. V. Ram Prasath Manohar said emergency repair works have been initiated after a 3,000-mm diameter transmission pipeline under Cauvery Phase-5 developed a leak due to damage to a sluice valve.

To ensure smooth and uninterrupted water supply to the city in the long term, BWSSB has taken up urgent rectification work, which will result in a temporary suspension of water supply from 7 AM to 10 PM on December 17 in areas dependent on Cauvery Phase-5.

“The inconvenience caused to residents is regretted, but the emergency repair is unavoidable to prevent further damage and ensure reliable water transmission to Bengaluru,” the BWSSB Chairman said.
